Frequency Festival 17.-18.8.

The Frequency festival is the most popular alternative festival in Austria. I know…you can’t use the words “popular” and “alternative” together (it’s a no-no, a big DON’T) but the Frequency is exactly as I’ve described: an alternative festival for 60.000 people.
The location is a Formula 1 circuit near Salzburg and the surrounding is amazing: there is nature everywhere, you can see the mountains around, there are only little villages (they consist of more than 50% farmhouses) and cows are grazing everywhere, even a little stream flows through the festival area…veeery, veeery Austrian!
I think it is the most beautiful place for a festival but it is a bit too narrow for 60.000 people – 30.000 would be enough. But anyway…The Frequency festival was the first festival I have ever been to with fine weather all the time (and I’ve been to 7 seven festivals the last 3 years). In Austria it’s typical that exactly the festival days are rainy days. But we were lucky this time.

The line up was really good…all the “most popular alternative” bands were there: Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Mando Diao, The Prodigy, Morrissey, Wir Sind Helden, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs and many more…
My favourite band was definitely Kaizers Orchestra I’ve seen them before but those Norwegian Guys just rock!!

Das Frequency Festival ist das populärste alternative Festival in Österreich. Klar, ich weiß schon…man kann populär nicht mit alternative in einem Zug verwenden (das ist ein Widerspruch in sich) aber das Frequency ist einfach genau so: Ein alternative Festival für 60.000 Leute.
Das Festivalgelände liegt ja auf dem Salzburgring und die Umgebung ist einfach traumhaft: rundherum die Natur, die Salzburger Berge, die kleinen Dörfer (die zu mehr als 50% aus Bauernhöfen bestehen, die grasenden Kühe auf den Wiesen, sogar ein kleiner Bach fließt durch das Festivalgelände…einfach typisch österreichisch!
Ich denke, dass diese Location mit Abstand der schönste Platz für ein Festival ist. Vielleicht ein wenig zu eng für 60.000 Besucher, 30.000 würden auch reichen…aber egal.
Ich muss schon sagen, dass das diesjährige Frequency das erste Festival mit durchgehend schönem Wetter für mich war (…und ich war auf vielen Festivals in den letzten drei Jahren!).
In Österreich ist es eben typisch, dass es genau zu den Festival-Zeiten schlechtes Wetter gibt aber dieses Mal hatten wir riesiges Glück.

Das Line Up war auch sehr gut…all die bekanntesten alternative Bands spielten am Frequency: Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Mando Diao, The Prodigy, Morrissey, Wir Sind Helden, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs und viele mehr…Am besten gefallen hatten mir Kaizers Orchestra, ich habe sie zwar schon einmal gesehen aber die Norweger rocken ganz einfach!!
